Is there an app to try on glasses?
Yes. Several apps let you try on glasses, built in different ways.
Sticker, live AR, or photoreal render?
Most try-on features fall into three groups.
- Sticker overlay: A flat frame image sits over your live video. Fast, but it skips real depth and light.
- Live AR: Tracks your face in 3D as you move. Still a live camera effect, not a real photo.
- Photoreal render: Takes one photo, then builds a new image of you. Not instant, but closer to a real photo.
SpecFit uses the third kind. It scans your face once, then renders a photoreal try-on on your own photo.

Does it measure you, or guess?
Some apps calculate your real face measurements. Some just scale a frame to roughly fit.
SpecFit measures you from the same photo it uses for the render.
- PD: About 1 mm from a 3D scan. An estimate from a selfie.
- Face width: Checked against a frame's own size stamp.
- Bridge width: Checked the same way, for a comfortable fit.
- Face shape: Read from the same scan or photo.
Not sure what "52-18-140" means? See glasses frame numbers and is PD on my prescription?
Guessing apps can't tell you if a frame runs wide or narrow. Check are PD apps accurate? and are virtual try-ons accurate? first.
Any frame, or one store's catalogue?
A store's own app usually only shows its own frames.
It's a dead end if you found a pair elsewhere. SpecFit works the other way.
- Curated wall: 50 styles built in, ready to try.
- Store link: Paste a product link from almost any store.
- Your own photo: Photograph a physical pair you already found.
- A video: Share a TikTok clip of a frame you spotted.

iPhone or Android?
Many store tools work on both, in a browser. Dedicated apps vary.
- iPhone with Face ID: Gets the full guided 3D scan.
- Older iPhone: Uses the selfie path instead, which gives an estimate.
- Android: SpecFit isn't available. Check your store's own app.
Where does your face data go?
Ask what an app does with your photo. Does it keep it, delete it, or send it off?
- Stored or deleted: Check if your photo stays after the render.
- Third parties: Check if your photo gets sent elsewhere.
- On-device vs cloud: A scan that stays on your phone is safest.
- Read the policy: Do this before you use any app's camera.
With SpecFit, a try-on photo is processed, then not stored. A face scan stays on your device.

What to check before you pick a try-on app
| What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Overlay or render | A render looks real. A live overlay is fast but rough. |
| Measures you or guesses | Only real measurements can tell you if a specific frame runs wide or narrow |
| Any frame or one catalogue | A catalogue-only app is fine if you already shop there, a dead end otherwise |
| iPhone or Android | Decides whether you get a 3D face scan or a photo-only path |
| Where your photo goes | Check whether it is stored, and by whom, before you use the camera |
| Free or paid | Overlays are often free. Real renders usually cost a little. |
Store apps vs general try-on apps
Both have a place. It depends on what you already know.
- Pick a store app if you already know where you're buying.
- Pick a general app if you're comparing frames across stores.
- Pick a general app if a store you like has no try-on feature.
Where SpecFit fits
SpecFit is built for iPhone shoppers. They want a real render and real numbers, not a quick preview.
- Not free: try-ons use credits (3 for $4.99, 7 for $9.99, 18 for $19.99). One credit per try-on, no subscription.
- Fit check: checking a frame's size against your measurements costs nothing.
- Not for Android: SpecFit is an iPhone app only.
- Any frame: wall, link, photo or video, always your own face.
Try any frame on your own face. Scan once. Then try frames from our wall, a store link, a photo or a TikTok video.
Questions
Is there an app to try on glasses?
Yes. Most stores have a try-on feature. Separate apps also work across stores and frames. They differ in overlay vs render, and measured vs guessed fit.
Is there an app where I can try on glasses virtually from any store?
Some apps only show one store's frames. Others, including SpecFit, work from a pasted link, a photo, or a shared video. The frame doesn't have to come from one store.
What's the difference between a glasses filter and a real try-on?
A filter overlays a flat sticker on live video. It skips real depth and light. A photoreal render builds a new image from your scan, with real shadows.
Can a glasses try-on app measure my face, or does it just guess?
It depends on the app. Some just place a frame image over your video. Others take a scan or selfie and calculate your PD, face width and bridge.
